Dental Bridges in Stratford

You can restore your smile with a Dental Bridge

Dental bridges are used to replace missing teeth, but require that the bridge-supporting teeth be shaved down. Dental implants may be a better solution.

When you are missing teeth, it affects not only your appearance but your health as well. There can be problems with chewing, thereby affecting what foods you eat and your nutrition. When missing teeth are not replaced, the teeth surrounding the gap will start to shift, which will change your bite and open the door to gum disease and bone deterioration.

What is a Dental Bridge?

A bridge fills the gap left when one or more teeth are missing. Each tooth on either side of the gap is fitted with a crown, and a false tooth or teeth are connected in between the crowns, filling the gap.

At our office, we prefer dental implants for replacing missing teeth. Implants are more durable, aesthetic, and longer lasting than dental bridges. Our doctors can assess your teeth and jaw to determine the best route to take in replacing any missing teeth.

Implants versus Bridges

A dental implant is the strongest and longest-lasting method of replacing a missing tooth.

Bridges require crowns to be fitted over natural teeth to anchor the bridge. This means that those teeth, which may be healthy, must be shaved down in order for the crowns to fit well. Our doctors would prefer not to cut down a healthy tooth if possible as that weakens the tooth and makes it more susceptible to decay.

An implant is a very strong titanium post placed in the jawbone where the missing tooth used to be. A crown is then secured to an abutment on top of the post. The result is a very natural-looking and feeling tooth held firmly in place that will last a lifetime. Learn more about Dental Implants.

Implant-Supported Bridges

An implant-supported bridge is used to replace multiple missing teeth.

If you are missing three or more teeth in a row, an implant-supported bridge may be the best option. With this type of bridge, implants take the place of the teeth that normally anchor the crowns on either side of the gap.

Dr. Hoos has extensive experience creating strong and aesthetic implant-supported bridges. He was one of the first general dentists to be Brånemark Certified for implant placement, and he even trains other dentists on dental implant treatment.
