Invisalign® Clear Teeth Straightening

Invisalign® Clear Teeth Straightening

Beautiful, straight teeth without metal braces

Invisalign® Clear Teeth StraighteningA straight smile looks good and can be a great confidence booster. It also promotes oral health as straight teeth are easier to clean, reducing the risk of gum disease and tooth decay. However, wearing traditional braces can be unappealing, especially for adults.

Thanks to the breakthrough Invisalign® system, many patients can now have their teeth straightened without the need for metal wires or brackets. Invisalign uses a series of comfortable, nearly invisible clear aligners to gradually correct the alignment of your teeth.

Experienced, certified Invisalign dentist

Types of Invisalign treatment we provide

Invisalign treatment can be done in courses of different lengths:

  • Invisalign Express 5 is the shortest course of treatment, consisting of five aligners that you will wear for a total of ten weeks. It can be used to correct minor flaws in the alignment of one or two teeth.
  • Invisalign Express 10 is a course of treatment that involves ten aligners and a total treatment time of 20 weeks. It is a suitable option for intermediate-level treatment, such as for moving the front teeth slightly forwards or backwards.
  • Invisalign Full comes with as many aligners as are needed to complete treatment when more extensive correction is required. Treatment with Invisalign Full is the best guarantee that you will get the results you are looking for. If you are not totally happy with your end result, you can request additional aligners at the end of your treatment to make further refinements to your smile. You can request as many additional aligners as you want for up to five years, at no additional charge.

Dr. Latham is experienced with Invisalign treatment and will be able to let you know which treatment length will best suit your needs.

Advantages of Invisalign

Invisalign® Clear Teeth StraighteningThe Invisalign system has many advantages over other forms of orthodontic treatment, including:

  • The clear aligners are nearly invisible
  • The aligners can be removed for eating, flossing and brushing your teeth—and also for special events such as wedding photos
  • The removable aligners make it easy to keep your teeth clean
  • Unlike with traditional braces, you will be able to eat whatever you want
  • Invisalign causes far less mouth irritation—you will have no wires or rubber bands to worry about

How Invisalign Works

The Invisalign system gradually straightens your teeth over time, using a series of medical-grade plastic aligners. Dr. Latham will closely supervise your treatment to make sure you get the best possible results.

Comprehensive exam and smile evaluation

You will receive a thorough examination that includes a bite check, a TMJ (jaw joint) evaluation and a gum disease evaluation. Dr. Latham will go over your smile goals with you to determine if Invisalign is the best system to give you the results you are looking for.

Choosing your Invisalign treatment option

If you have been determined to be a candidate for Invisalign, the doctor will go over the different treatment options that are available within the Invisalign system—Invisalign Express 5 (10 weeks), Invisalign Express 10 (20 weeks) and Invisalign Full (however long is necessary to accomplish your goals for your smile). Together, you will determine which option will best suit your needs.

Planning your treatment

Dr. Latham will create study models of your smile and bite for use in treatment planning. She will take digital photos of your smile from different angles. She will also take photos of the bite surfaces of your teeth. We will also take impressions of your teeth that will be sent to the Invisalign lab.

Previewing your final smile

In your next appointment, you will be shown a custom, personalized video simulation of how your teeth will be straightened over the course of your Invisalign treatment, including what your teeth will look like when your treatment has been completed. If you are happy with the result, Dr. Latham will send your impressions to Invisalign for fabrication of your aligners, and you will be able to begin your treatment about two weeks later.

Custom aligners based on your treatment plan

At the Invisalign lab, your custom aligners will be created with great precision. You will wear each aligners for two weeks in an exact sequence, with each aligner carefully designed to provide the tooth movement required within that two-week time span. Your complete series of aligners worn in sequence will move your teeth from their original positions into their desired positions over the course of your treatment.

Gradually straightening your teeth

It is recommended that you wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day, but you can remove them at any time, such as for cleaning, eating and special events. Dr. Latham will give you detailed instructions on the care of your aligners. You will visit our office every four to six weeks, so that the doctor can closely monitor your progress.

Maintaining your straight smile with complimentary retainers

After any form of teeth straightening, it is possible for a relapse to occur. We therefore recommend the use of retainers after your treatment. As part of your Invisalign treatment, we will give you four complimentary sets of retainers so that you can use to keep your new, beautiful smile in optimum condition!

Conditions Invisalign can correct

Invisalign teeth straightening can treat a variety of conditions. Dr. Latham will examine you and let you know what you can expect from your treatment. In general, some of the conditions that can be corrected with Invisalign include:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overbites (when upper front teeth stick out over the lower teeth)
  • Underbites (when lower front teeth protrude beyond the upper teeth)
  • Crossbites (when upper teeth bite on the inside of the lower teeth)

Who is a candidate for Invisalign?

Dr. Latham provides Invisalign teeth straightening to patients whose jaws have fully developed. In practice, this usually means that patients around age 17 and up can receive Invisalign treatment.

Invisalign is best suited for correcting certain types of misalignment. In some situations, orthodontic treatment with the Six Month Smiles system can be a better option. Dr. Latham can examine you and let you know which type of treatment she recommends for you.
