Invisalign Versus Traditional Braces

Having straightened teeth and a properly aligned bite can dramatically improve your smile and boost your confidence. When your teeth are straight and your bite is aligned it allows you to properly bite and chew your food. It is also easier to brush and floss your teeth. What is the best option for straightening teeth?

In the past, traditional braces were the only alternative. Traditional braces are metal brackets which get cemented to every tooth. These brackets are connected by metal wires and rubber bands. The wires, which place constant pressure on the teeth to move them into place, must be tightened monthly.

Many people dislike or have even avoided wearing traditional braces for several reasons. First, many consider traditional braces to be unattractive. The wires and rubber bands can also cause pain, swelling and irritation to the cheeks and gums. When wearing metal braces, certain foods are forbidden. Cleaning and flossing teeth can also be a challenge.

An alternative to traditional braces is Invisalign® Clear Braces. These are a series of clear, plastic aligner trays that are custom-built for your teeth. Invisalign clear braces will gently and gradually move your teeth into their correct position. You wear a tray for a specified amount of time (as determined by your doctor) and then progress to the next tray. At every stage, your teeth are moving more into position.

Millions of people have chosen Invisalign Clear Braces, including adults that have always wanted their teeth straightened but hesitated to wear traditional braces. Here are some of the reasons people prefer Invisalign over traditional braces:

  • the clear aligners are nearly invisible
  • they can be removed for special occasions
  • you can often see results in just a few month
  • you can remove the aligners to eat your favorite foo
  • you can remove the aligners for proper brushing and flossing
  • there are no metal, wire or rubber bands to cause swelling, pain or irritation
  • Invisalign treatment requires fewer doctor visits, making it easier on your schedule

Are you eligible for Invisalign?

Invisalign candidates include adults whose jaws are fully developed and teenagers who have received all of their permanent teeth. Invisalign may not be suitable to those with very severe teeth and bite misalignment.
