Are There Multivitamins for Dental Health I Should Take?
Posted on 7/1/2024 by Brush & Floss Office
Nearly 85 percent of all American adults take at least one vitamin supplement each day. There are vitamins for eye health, cardiovascular health, and even liver health. You may already be taking vitamins and supplements for your overall health, but have you considered your dental health? Are there vitamins and minerals you can take to keep the teeth and gums healthy? Here is some information about vitamins and your dental health.
Multivitamins for Dental Health
There are currently no all-in-one multivitamins for dental health. However, just because there is not a multivitamin specifically formulated for dental health, there are some vitamins you need to make sure you get each day to help your teeth and gums stay healthy and strong.
Calcium, Vitamin D, and Phosphorous
Some of the most important vitamins for your teeth are calcium, vitamin D, and phosphorous. All of these vitamins work together to help your body process them and keep your teeth healthy. These vitamins keep your bones strong and work to remineralize your teeth as well. You need to make sure you are getting the recommended daily allowance for all of these vitamins.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is nearly as important to teeth and gums as calcium is. It has several uses in the body. First, vitamin C is an anti-inflammatory, which means that if you have gum disease, it can help you keep it under control. Also, vitamin C helps your gums maintain great blood flow, which helps to keep them healthier.
Vitamin A
Another vital vitamin for tooth health is vitamin A. This vitamin ensures your teeth have the right amount of tooth enamel to keep them strong and healthy. Also, in children, vitamin A helps their permanent teeth come in the proper shape and size. Ensure you take the recommended amount per day but no more than that.
