Creating a beautiful smile with veneers

A veneer is a thin, strong shell made of porcelain that is bonded to the front of a tooth. It is tooth colored and very natural looking. Our veneers are custom molded and shaped for your specific look. Veneers will effectively cover or correct a variety of conditions that make your smile less than perfect, such as chips, gaps, heavy stains, teeth that are mildly crooked and more.

Dr. Hoos has extensive training in cosmetic dentistry procedures and teaches cosmetic dentistry procedures to other dentists. He has placed hundreds of veneers to improve his patients’ smiles.

Designing your smile

Creating your perfect smile starts with obtaining all the necessary information about your teeth and jaw. This is done with a variety of tools including digital X-rays, extraoral photos, cosmetic imaging with Smilevision, and study models and wax-ups to plan out your final restoration.

Smilevision is a high-tech imaging program we use that clearly shows before and after depictions of your smile. Instead of using stock photos of before and after’s, this system utilizes specially trained dental artists who use Smilevision’s digital technology along with an art tablet to accurately customize the “after” photo showing the final results.

Veneer preparation

Dr. Hoos has successfully placed hundreds of veneers and uses his artistic eye to create beautiful, very natural looking veneers. He will work with you on choosing the right shade, shape and size for your veneers.

Depending on what type of veneer is best for your teeth, Dr. Hoos may either have his high-quality lab custom make them based on his instructions, or he may use pre-fabricated veneers by Componeer, which are then customized by him so that they are shaped and fitted exactly.

Custom Veneers created at our high-tech lab

When your veneers are created in our trusted state-of-the-art lab, Dr. Hoos first gets your approval on what the final result will look like using Smilevision, models, or sometimes temporary veneers. He then prepares the tooth. Sometimes a tooth must be shaved down a bit so the veneer will not be bulky, but this reduction is very minimal and often doesn’t even require anesthetic. He will then take an impression, which is sent to the lab with all instructions. There, the talented and skilled lab technicians will create your new veneers to specifications.

When the veneers are completed, you will come back to the office to have them bonded to your teeth. This is done by applying etching gel to the teeth and then securely cementing the veneers in place. Your new smile is complete.

Componeer® Veneers in one visit

componeerbna2With veneers by Componeer, you can have your new veneers in one visit, as you won’t have to wait for the lab to create them. Once the shade, size and shape has been agreed upon, the tooth will be prepared, such as shaving it down a little if needed so the veneer will fit correctly.

An etching gel is then put on the tooth, which augments the bonding process, and the veneer is then bonded to the tooth. A special light is applied next, which makes the bonding cement hard and strong. In the last step, Dr. Hoos will make customized adjustments, such as fine tuning the shaping of your veneer so it will look beautiful and natural as well as integrate smoothly with your bite.

Dental Bonding—An economical alternative to Porcelain Veneers

Dental bonding

Dental bonding can be used to fix many cosmetic issues with the teeth.

Dental bonding is often used for the many of the same purposes as veneers, as well as being used for aesthetic fillings. Dental bonding is tooth-colored composite resin material that is directly to teeth to augment teeth, such as in repairing chips, or covers teeth, such as to whiten discolored teeth. It requires no anesthesia and little tooth preparation.

Dental bonding is more economical than porcelain veneers but can be less durable. However, Dr. Hoos has extensive experience using dental bonding for cosmetic purposes, and can create a very natural-appearing, durable finish that can last a long time with proper care.

Uses of Dental Bonding

  • To fill cavities
  • To improve the appearance of yellowed, discolored teeth or stained teeth
  • To repair chipped or cracked teeth
  • To close gaps between teeth
  • To change the shape of teeth
  • To make teeth appear longer
  • To cover and protect a portion of a tooth’s root that has been exposed as a result of gum recession
